Cactus Flower, starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn, came out in 1969. As much as I lusted after Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn--my feelings for Walter Matthau, while certain and strong, were not lustful--I shall have to admit that my affection for real cactus flowers is even stronger.
Occasional, almost gentle rains in the last months have encouraged the cacti to think like Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn.
In 1969, I took a job in Iowa where, for the most part, I remained for almost 30 years. Iowa was all corn and beans and, I suppose, so was I. It surprised me that I had become an Iowan just as, later, it surprised me even more how much I love the Sonoran Desert.
I seem to have a deadly attraction for miserable political posture. "Deadly Attraction"? That was a movie, too, "a major family dysfunction of lust, betrayal, anger, over-protection, and hatred, etc."
I draw no conclusions.
