He comes up the hill
with the urgency of a fanatic
running at the end of the world
our neighbor's dog
skidding to a halt
precisely in center yard
as he does every day
doing what must be done
leaving evidence
that he eats chili con carne
with habaňero sauce
then charging relieved
across the street
hopping three-legged
from bush to bush
